OPI Photonics

OPI Photonics is a dynamic Italian SME located in Torino (North-West Italy).

OPI takes advantage of over 20 years of experience in photonics to develop high power multi-emitter laser diode sources and innovative devices for kilowatt laser beam management (combining, coupling, delivery and switching).

OPI’s flexible technological approach allows the seamless coexistence of off-the-shelf and dedicated solutions, up to personalized approaches in which OPI accompanies the customers from the design phase, to the realization of prototypes, and then to volume production.

LASER BEAM
DELIVERY SYSTEMS

 

OPI Photonics’ range of Couplers, Switches, Combiners, Splitters, and Collimators is the “Industry 4.0”-ready solution for multi-kilowatt fiber and direct diode high-power laser beam management.

OPI offers both off-the-shelf and custom products to satisfy specific needs in terms of optical fiber cable and connectors (QBH, QD, PT-F, …) and laser beam specifications.

– Couplers, Switches, Combiners and Splitters can be configured for up to 10 kW of maximum power, with different number of input/output channels and optical magnification (typically from 0,8 to 2);

– Beam collimators can be configured for up to 10 kW of maximum power, with focal lengths ranging from 40 to 200 mm and optional fixed or removable protection windows.

Each system is equipped with embedded safety and control boards that monitor both the operative conditions of the optical, electrical, and mechanical internal elements, and the feeding and process fibers.

OPI Photonics’ high power BrighteX laser modules combine multiple single-emitters into a delivery fiber exploiting different optical architectures.

Each architecture is implemented on a common platform, which constitutes the base for OPI’s standard products, but enables also tailoring the product according to specific needs. Thanks to this unique innovative approach, customers can choose from a standard product portfolio or identify the combination of platform, single emitter properties and output fiber characteristics that best matches their application requirements, without the high costs and long timescales typical of a completely new product development.

Currently, the BrighteX series is made up of three common platforms:
– BrighteX-P1, which features a rugged and reliable design based on beam stacking, allowing up to 140 W of fiber coupled power;
– BrighteX-P2, which adds polarization multiplexing to beam stacking, doubling the brightness of the P1 platform;
– BrighteX-D1, which further exploits coarse wavelength division multiplexing to deliver up to 500 W in a compact and reliable package footprint.

KNOW-HOW
Special Solutions

OPI Photonics develops cutting-edge solutions for high power photonics exploiting a deep know-how in laser beam management, with a special focus on laser diode packaging and kilowatt-class laser beam handling.
OPI’s skills and facilities include: design and simulation, high power laser characterization, 1.000 – 10.000 class (ISO 6 – 7) clean rooms, fiber processing machines, access to dielectric and metal deposition equipment, wet and dry etching, nano-scale lithography (EBL), diode chip assembly tools.

Building on these capabilities, OPI has been successfully managing innovative projects, such as the development of high power direct-diode lasers for additive manufacturing or smart beam shaping and switching systems for breakthrough laser manufacturing applications in automotive.

PROJECTS

OPI Photonics is an SME open to innovation: its flexible technology makes OPI the ideal partner for research projects, both as technology provider and as end user.

OPI Photonics expertise has already been recognized in several projects funded by the European Commission (FP7 and H2020).
